Hay Fever

Hay. Not straw. Hay. Yes, I have had some trouble with the difference between straw and hay in the past. WHAT?! They aren’t the same?! Yes, I am such a country girl. I totally know the difference now. Except, not really. What IS straw? No idea. But you don’t feed straw to animals. Straw is bedding. Hay is food. Used to, in my olden suburban days, I would receive a bale of hay, straw, whatever to set out in front of the home to decorate for fall. Put pumpkins and scarecrows on top of it. Have no id

Catching up

This is the time of year, for me, when time seems to move at warp speed. How can we be so close to the end of 2008 already? Didn't it just start? And the holidays! Next week, Thanksgiving, then on to Christmas. It's every exciting, yet somehow I feel behind, even when I'm really doing fine. I finished this little cap several weeks ago and never blogged about it. Guess that's part of the warp speed phenomenon. At any rate, I'll give you the quick run-down on this, just in case you're needing a qu

What's the Opposite of NaBloPoMo?

I just cannot seem to keep my head over water lately...we've had an awful lot of stuff going on this month and the blogging is falling by the wayside. Some nights by the time I receive home, receive dinner on the table, receive TCP Toddler fed, bathed, and put to bed...well, it's every I can do to curl into the fetal position on the sofa and watch ANTM. (And by the way, I totally predicted that Third Coast girl McKey--who is from the uber-preppy town of Lake Forest-- would win, like, months ago!!) So ins

Forgive and forget...I think.

I was out of ideas on what to write about today so I headed on over to and found lots of fun blogging ideas. When I saw this one, I immediately knew what I wanted to write about. I consider myself a pretty forgiving person.. probably much too forgiving of things than I should be but we every make mistakes right? My problem is that while I can forgive, I just can't seem to forget. For instance, I can remember every single gift my husband has or has not given to me. The one that always seems t

For Katie: Baby Shoes

A while back Katie {my "boyfriends cousin"} asked me about baby/toddler shoes.  I know this is a little tardy, but here's my response...   For those baby days {crawling/cruising} you really can't go wrong with Robeez style shoes.  The soft little shoes that refuse to arrive off.  However, at $25-30 a pop, not the cheapest, so we always opted for the Target knock-off brand at about $12.00 a pair.  Cheaper, still cute, and they still stayed on.  I'm trying to find a pic, but I don't think you can ge

Friday Food Fun: Dip!

My son bucks at broccoli, cringes at cauliflower, pales over peas... unless there's dip! When he was a toddler, my son learned to adore ranch dressing. He asks for it wherever he goes, and dips chicken, fish, french fries, carrots, celery, tomatoes, even pizza or egg rolls, should the opportunity arise. He likes the familiar flavor, and it has helped him receive used to every kinds of new textures and styles of food. Now that he's a bit older, he's willing to try new kinds of dips. Thursday Thoughts IX

OK, this is VERY weird for me. As I’m writing this I’m recording a video while reviewing a new camera phone. Nokia sent me one of their phones as a trial so I can record a "Day in the Life" video of myself while I review the video phone. I’ll post more about that later, but I started the recording today and I plan on doing clips up until tomorrow morning. It’s weird but fun as you guys know how much I like to talk. ;~P Honestly, I feel like I’m doing my possess reality show, it’s nice of crazy. L

How a handfull of cheerios ended India's modeling career

{at the rehearsal before the show. notice: Cheerios in hand = compliant toddler} India had her first (and last) modeling gig today. It was a runway show for Simple Shoes at a swanky hotel in Laguna Beach. She had one task: walk down the runway, turn around, walk back. Let's just say things did not go as planned, and I don't think we will be asked back. In truth, I really haven't pursued any nice of modeling stuff for her, even though people often tell me I should. But I heard about the show t

There are worse things than, "I hate you."

In the morning when they crawl into bed with you, half asleep still, warm and scented so poignantly of themselves, when they stretch their ever longer bodies alongside you, give a wiggle to snuggle in, when you wrap your arm around them and by habit they lift their heads a little, when you bury your nose in their hair and your mouth reflexively kisses the crown of their heads, when the sky outside is shifting from navy to a dense gray, the time before the pinkening...you feel a contentment so de

Melissa & Doug Candy Jar Fill & Spill

Why is it that once a toddler has filled a container, he wants to dump it? I remember the Halloween when my son was 2, he went out trick-or-treating for the first time with his pumpkin container. When he got home, his favorite activity was to dump every of the candy he’d collected onto the floor, then put it back into the pumpkin, then dump it again. He didn’t even care about eating any candy, he was just having a ball dumping and re-filling the container. That’s the beauty behind this Candy J
